Cape Town authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the devastating wildfire currently ravaging the Tokai and Silvermine sections of Table Mountain National Park .

As the fire continues to spread, with no containment in sight, the situation has left 3 000 hectares of vegetation scorched and local roads impacted.

The arrest was made after a tip-off led law enforcement officers to a man spotted in Clovelly, near the blaze's origin point, as per SABC News . The suspect was apprehended close to an area where the fire had ignited, far from the designated fire line. He is now facing arson charges following the fires outbreak late last week.

The flames, which began on Friday, have caused widespread concern, though no structural damage has been reported so far. Emergency response teams, including helicopters, have been deployed in a bid to suppress the fire, conducting water drops to assist ground-based firefighting efforts.

Traffic conditions in Cape Town's South Peninsula have been severely disrupted due to road closures and diversions caused by the wildfire. Despite Ou Kaapse Weg reopening, several key routes remain blocked, leaving drivers with limited options.
