It is relatively quiet around Soweto, south of Johannesburg, where hundreds of people are expected to take part in marches against undocumented foreign nationals. Government has reiterated that this Tuesday will be a normal working day. Taxi operators have also indicated that they will be operating as usual. The Bara Taxi rank in Soweto is usually bustling in the morning with commuters rushing to board taxis. However, this Tuesday morning its relatively quiet. Commuters are slowly trickling in to go to their various destinations. The taxi ranks manager says that although things are not operating as usual, they still expect some movement as the day progresses. Taxi organisations like the South African National Taxi Council SANTACO and the National Taxi Alliance NTA have said that it will be business as usual and that taxis will continue ferrying passengers throughout the day.
