South Africa's Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, has highlighted the role of digital infrastructure in advancing education equity, as a new digital lab was launched at Phefeni Secondary School in Soweto.

The initiative, delivered in partnership with the Minister of Basic Education and Microsoft, aims to expand access to technology for learners from disadvantaged communities. The new facility is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop digital skills, connect to learning resources, and prepare for participation in the digital economy.

Malatsi described access to cyberlabs and similar infrastructure as a "powerful equaliser," stressing that digital inclusion ensures every learner-regardless of location-has the opportunity to learn, connect, and build a future in a technology-driven world.
