South African swimmer, Pieter Coetze, has added a second world championship medal to his collection from the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Singapore this time silver.
The 21-year-old University of Pretoria student came second in the 200-meter backstroke final in a new national and continental record. He touched the wall in one minute, 53,36 seconds - almost nine tenths of a second quicker that the record he set in Thursdays semifinal.
It took a personal best from Hungarys Hubert Kos to beat Coetze into second place. Kos, the Olympic and World Short Course champion in the event, won gold in one minute, 53-point-one-nine seconds. Coetze also won gold in the 100 meters backstroke on Tuesday.
Soon after Coetzes second medal of the Championships, 26-year-old Kaylene Corbett won her first medal at a major event.
The South African finished joint third in the womens 200 meters breaststroke final for a bronze medal - a race won by American Kate Douglas in a new national record time.
