Prominent South African Broadcaster Clarence Keyter has died. The 80-year-old died on Friday night due to natural causes after a long illness, for which he received treatment at an East Rand hospital.

Keyter was best known as the voice behind the live worldwide broadcast of Nelson Mandelas release from the Victor Verster Prison on 11 February 1990.

Mandela at a later stage, reportedly, shook Keyters hand and thanked him for his reportage.
