Hantavirus contacts in South Africa are being traced after health officials confirmed that 97 people are now under monitoring following the rare cruise ship-linked case, Cape town Etc reports.
During an interview with SABC News , Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi said South African teams are working alongside the World Health Organisation and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases to track exposed passengers , healthcare workers and flight contacts linked to the case.
We work with them every day, the official said, adding that the Department of Health, WHO representatives and the NICD are coordinating tracing efforts. Officials also confirmed that the Andes strain is the only known hantavirus strain capable of human-to-human transmission.
