The South African Post Office has announced an indefinite suspension of all parcel services to the United States, citing complex new regulatory requirements after President Donald Trump revoked duty-free access for international shipments.
The suspension stems from a recent US presidential order that repealed the de minimis exemption, which previously allowed smaller packages to enter the US duty-free. The policy shift, initially applied to China before being extended globally, aims to curb the inflow of illegal substances such as fentanyl.
The decision affects all parcels containing goods destined for the US, though documents, letters, and exempted mail classes such as military mail will continue to be accepted, News24 reports.
