siu welcomes setting aside of r85 million border wall contract

The Special Investigating Unit SIU has welcomed the Special Tribunals ruling which set aside the R85 million tender awarded to ISF Shula Joint Venture for the construction of a wall along the KwaZulu-Natal-Mozambique border.

The commissioning of the wall followed concerns of heightened crime at the border including the movement of stolen and hijacked vehicles into Mozambique.

The SIUs probe found that the Joint Venture submitted fraudulent documents, failed to meet mandatory requirements and left the project incomplete despite receiving R85 million.
