A Boxing Day assault on the lower slopes of Signal Hill has left a woman injured and her dog dead, renewing fears about safety on popular hiking routes around Table Mountain National Park, reports Cape town Etc .
The incident took place above the Noon Gun between about 4:00pm and 6:00pm on 26 December, according to the Take Back Our Mountains community group, which is urging anyone with cameras to come forward.
Witnesses described the attacker as a young man wearing black trousers, a green hoodie and visible blue and white striped underwear, armed with a knife. The woman survived and required medical attention, while bystanders said she was incoherent with grief at the loss of her pet.
