The City of Ekurhuleni says it will auction about 173 impounded vehicles by end of January next year if not collected by their owners. The City has warned it will sell the vehicles to pay any costs incurred, if the owners fail to collect them within 120 days after been impounded.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department EMPD says in terms of the law if impounded vehicles have been stored for more than four months, the municipal council may dispose of them.

The vehicles have been impounded by EMPD for various reasons, such as their condition not being roadworthy, while some were abandoned. The EMPDs Constable Sibusiso Mabaso says theyve been stored at various pounds for more than four months and are now filling up the yards and leaving no space.
