A massive search operation continues along the Gordons Bay coastline after a local fisherman was swept off rocks by powerful waves on Saturday morning.
The 43-year-old Blue Downs man was fishing near the Gordons Bay Battery, close to Rocky Bay, when disaster struck just after 10:30 AM, as reported by the National Sea Rescue Institute .
Multiple emergency services, including the NSRI, police divers, and medical teams, have been combing the rugged shoreline and rough seas since the incident. Despite extensive air, sea, and land searches, no trace of the missing angler has been found.
The NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew scrambled into action after receiving distress calls, quickly launching their rescue craft Spirit of Surfski. A coordinated response saw Cape Town Traffic Services, EMS rescue teams, and the Skymed rescue helicopter join the operation.
Police divers from the Water Policing and Diving Services WPDS were also deployed to scour the submerged rocks and turbulent waters. However, strong swells and poor visibility have hampered efforts.
