Construction has officially begun on the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority's flagship "Hexagon" Data Center, set to become the largest government-owned data center in the world by power capacity. The facility, which will be developed in Riyadh, is designed as a Tier IV data center and has earned the highest classification from the global Uptime Institute. Once completed, it will deliver a total capacity of 480 megawatts and span more than 30 million square feet.
Built to meet the most stringent international standards, the Hexagon Data Center will provide ultra-high availability, advanced security, and full operational resilience for government digital infrastructure. The project is intended to support the rapidly expanding demand for e-government services, strengthen national data sovereignty, and enhance the reliability of critical digital platforms across public institutions. It is also expected to contribute significantly to economic growth while positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub in the evolving digital economy.
A formal ceremony marking the start of construction was attended by senior government officials from multiple agencies. Guests were welcomed by SDAIA President Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi and other officials of the authority. The event opened with a detailed briefing by Dr. Issam bin Abdullah Alwagait, Director of the National Information Center at SDAIA, who outlined the project's technical scope, engineering design, and operational framework. He highlighted the center's compliance with international benchmarks and the global certifications secured for its design and infrastructure.
