The South African Municipal Workers Union Samwu will lead a march to Tshwane House today to demand the reinstatement of workers who were unfairly dismissed in 2021.
The dismissals followed a salary increase dispute which emanated from the City of Tshwanes failure to adhere to an agreement it had reached with Samwu and other labour unions.
The agreement was that workers would receive salary increases of 3.5 in 2021 and 5.4 in 2023.
However, the Tshwane Metro tried to apply for an exemption at the bargaining council to avoid the increases, but the application was rejected.
Samwu Tshwane Regional Chairperson Lehlohonolo Maphatsoe says they hope that the new administration will reinstate the workers as soon as possible.
