Mohamed Salah sat down with LEQUIPE for an interview, during which he reflected on Liverpool's Champions League elimination.
The Reds were eliminated from the Champions League in the Round of 16 at the hands of PSG. Salah praised the French clubs performance over the two legs, acknowledging how evenly matched the two teams were and how luck played a decisive role.
"I have to be honest," Salah said. "PSG played an excellent first leg. We were really lucky Alisson probably had the best game of his Liverpool career. They were very unlucky not to score more. Then they came to Anfield, and this time, we were the unlucky ones. We hit the post two or three times, and they cleared the ball off the line once or twice. So yes, we were unlucky too."
Salah continued, "Everything was 50/50 in that tie. Who deserved to go through more? No one can say. They had a great first leg we had a great second leg. Then it went to penalties. Sometimes it's your day, sometimes it's mine. This time, it was theirs. No one can honestly say, 'They 100 deserved it.' Maybe in the first leg yes. In the second, no. And the same goes for us."
Despite the heartbreak of the shootout defeat, Salah exhibited the sportsmanship that this game demands, "I shook the players' hands afterward and told them, 'Congratulations, go win it!' That was it."
He also commented on the timing of Liverpool's dip in form. "We were in top shape all season. Then in March, we had a bit of a slump, Mo said. And we happened to face the best team in Europe at that exact moment. They were peaking while we were just slightly off. Then came the League Cup final against Newcastle . Losing in the Champions League, then heading into another final with that in mind? The timing couldn't have been worse."
As PSG prepare to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final, it's clear they left a strong impression on the Premier League star.
