In communities where pain is often carried quietly, a new space is emerging for young South Africans to speak openly and find solidarity. The South African Depression and Anxiety Group SADAG is proud to announce the launch of a new free online mental health support group, created for young adults between the ages of 18 and 35 navigating trauma.
Support group leader Natalie-Janes comments, I've lived through heartbreak, and I've seen too many lives cut short. But I've also witnessed how healing can begin through honesty and a shared space. This support group exists so those experiences don't stay buried. Even in the hardest places, people are capable of connection and change.
Mental health is still something people don't talk about openly in many communities, and going to clinics or professionals can feel scary or confusing.
This support group offers a different kind of space, one where people can come together, share their stories, or just listen without any pressure. Many of us grew up thinking that speaking about our pain makes us weak. This group shows that it makes us strong. We heal by showing up and being real with each other, says Natalie-Jane.
The Support Group launches on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, from 7pm to 8pm via Zoom.
