The South African Communist Party SACP General-Secretary Solly Mapaila says they are not aiming to break the alliance with the African National Congress ANC by independently taking part in the 2026 local government elections LGE.

He was speaking at a gathering at KwaDlengezwa near Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal to commemorate the partys 104th anniversary.

Mapaila says the SACP is implementing a conference resolution already taken in 2022. However, he adds that the SACP is tired of taking part in never-ending discussions with the ANC and decisions taken there were not being implemented.

Mapaila says the SACP has decided to go it alone in the elections to exercise power on behalf of the working class and unemployed.

He says five projects undertaken in three provinces so far where communal farms and cooperatives were formed as self-help initiatives, are examples of what they aim to achieve.
