The ad hoc committee established to investigate allegations of national security will meet today to elect a chairperson.
Parliament established the committee two weeks ago, following allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi t hat some of the most senior officials in the South African Police Service SAPS are involved in corruption and that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is associated with dubious characters.
Among others, the ad hoc committee will look into the alleged unlawful decision by Mchunu to disband the Political Killings Task Team, the alleged removal of 121 dockets of the task team by Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.
It will also probe the R360 million healthcare tender awarded to murder accused and businessman Vusi Cat Matlalas company and the alleged interference by the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption in police matters.
The committee, consisting of 11 members of Parliament, has three months to complete its work.
