The law has not changed yet. South Africans with a television set still need a valid SABC TV licence, even if they no longer watch broadcast TV, reports Cape town Etc .
Newsroom ZA reports that the current rules remain in force and the SABC says TV licence still applies to anyone who owns a TV or any device capable of receiving a broadcast signal.
The broadcaster says the only exemption applies when a set is permanently altered, such as by removing the tuner, and the owner submits proof and pays for an inspection.
