Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza has called on South Africans not to assist illegal immigrants to register their children in the country.

He was speaking in Moletjie outside Polokwane in Limpopo where he led the late registration of birth outreach.

If you go to areas towards Musina, you get a lot of South Africans who have relations with people from Zimbabwe and they end up saying no dont worry I know you, bring your ID will go and register your child as if she is mine and then unfortunately, they give birth to their own child and they cant register their own child. So dont participate in wrong things.

Ten Home Affairs mobile trucks are rendering services at the venue. Nzuza has also urged parents to register their newborn babies before leaving health facilities.

Nzuza says late birth registrations pose challenges to the issuing of certificates and identity documents.
