Police have deployed additional units to Mitchells Plain, on the Cape Flats, after a number of fatal shootings in the area this week.

On Thursday, five people were gunned down and seven others wounded in gang-related shooting incidents at different locations.

Authorities say multi-disciplinary deployments have been bolstered in an effort to find the perpetrators.

Police say several people have been taken in for questioning in relation to the serious crimes committed. Meanwhile, 43 identified gang houses were searched.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile says police are making arrests, As police were busy, we learned that there is a shooting, somebody was shot in Tafelsig and one in Town Centre and our reaction was from there, we mobilise and deploy more members. We have more than 20 people arrested and we detained 19.
