Private correspondence between global banking heavyweight Ariane de Rothschild and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein has surfaced, unexpectedly pulling South African billionaire Johann Rupert into the fallout.
Documents show that De Rothschild, now chief executive of the Edmond de Rothschild Group, maintained regular contact with Epstein over several years, despite later attempts by the bank to downplay the extent of their relationship. Within those exchanges, Rupert's name appears in passing, though he insists he had no knowledge of her dealings with Epstein at the time, as reported by My Broadband .
The connection between the Rupert and Rothschild families stretches back decades, rooted in a 1997 partnership between Anton Rupert and Baron Edmond de Rothschild that led to the creation of Ruperts Rothschilds Vignerons. Johann Rupert's brother, Anthonij, later ran the wine venture until his death in a car accident in 2001. Ariane de Rothschild is the widow of Anthonij's business partner, Benjamin de Rothschild, who died in Switzerland in 2021 at the age of 57.
