South African National Parks SANParks have reportedly fined religious groups for illegally starting fires in Table Mountain National Park after a blaze broke near the well-known worship spot along Boyes Drive on Sunday morning, reports Cape town Etc .

According to reports, this comes after investigations into yesterdays blaze allegedly suggest that it may have been a religious group that was the cause of the wildfire in Pecks Valley.

SANParks spokesperson JP Louw told SABC News that park rangers found several religious groups illegally starting fires in the area.

They were removed from the site and fined for violating fire safety regulations. Louw says mop-up operations are underway. He urged members of the public and hikers to avoid the surrounding trails until further notice, the publication quoted Louw as saying.

The publication also added that a volunteer Wildfire Services firefighter had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
