Release by Scatec, a renewable energy leasing company under Scatec ASA, has developed a proprietary solar panel mounting structure designed to accelerate utility-scale renewable energy deployment across Africa. Engineered by the companys South African team, the new system introduces a non-permanent, redeployable substructure optimised for multi-megawatt, ground-mounted PV projects.
Chief Engineer Abri Stegmann says the systems innovation lies in combining scalability with redeployability. The substructure achieves a higher ground coverage ratio than standard fixed-tilt systems, allowing more installed capacity per hectare and, in many cases, greater energy generation as well, he told Energize . The system requires only handheld tools for installation.
Tested for wind, sand and corrosion resistance under African conditions, the structure uses soil-anchor technology proven in the mining and agricultural sectors to ensure stability with minimal environmental impact. Fixed-tilt systems also require no complex commissioning and minimal maintenance, he says.
