ramaphosa defends gnu as right move amid criticism

African National Congress ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says that despite pushback from some quarters, the Government of National Unity GNU remains the right approach - one that has brought stability and addressed the challenges facing the country.

Speaking at the ANCs four-day National Executive Committee NEC meeting in Germiston, east of Johannesburg, Ramaphosa has noted that a range of issues were discussed.

These included the hurdles confronting the GNU, the South African Communist Party 's SACP decision to contest elections independently, and the recent tariffs imposed by the United States on South African exports.

Ramaphosa reaffirms that the 10-party GNU pact is still the correct and valid choice for the people of South Africa.

The ANC president adds that the partys National Executive Committee had the most productive meeting ever.
