Former Black Consciousness Movement leader, Professor Barney Pityana, has told delegates the Azanian Peoples Organisations AZAPO 27th National Congress , in Bloemfontein, that they have the duty to transform the country.
The organisation has announced its intention to contest the local government elections next year.
Pityana says more should be done to foster a culture of empathy and compassion.
In other words, I am trying to say that the fact that you are educated, you have many cars, you might have mansions or homes in different parts of the country or you may have millions or something like that, you have to internalise humanity. I am trying to say that we can no longer blame whiteness because the reason we suffer is that we are not affirming our blackness, says Pityana.
