Pikitup Casual Workers Embark On Work Stoppage, Services Disrupted

Pikitup services have been disrupted in Randburg north of Johannesburg as casual workers embarked on a work stoppage since Wednesday last week. They demand permanent positions, which were allegedly promised by the waste management company in 2023. The gate at the depot has been blocked with garbage and waste. Residents say the stench has become a health hazard. The workers have accused the company of nepotism. Pikitup COO Meyrick Ramatlo has disputed these accusations. We have encouraged them to report these matters. City of Johannesburgs Forensic Department is currently investigating those allegations. We are awaiting that outcome. The law allows the employees to report these matters, they should report any suspicions of nepotism or irregular processes that occurs, adds Ramatlo.
