The Patriotic Alliance PA has confirmed it won't be pulling out of government, with its leadership and MPs choosing to stay put following crunch talks with the African National Congress ANC in Johannesburg this week, Cape town Etc reports.
Deputy leader Kenny Kunene revealed that the meeting brought together Gauteng provincial representatives, Johannesburg metro officials and ANC leaders, all to address growing tensions around municipal governance in the province. The talks followed an ultimatum from PA president Gayton McKenzie, who had threatened to quit his ministerial role and pull the party out of the Government of National Unity GNU if Kunene was not reinstated to the mayoral committee.
Kunene, speaking later during a Facebook Live session, said both sides laid out their positions and considered proposals that extended beyond Johannesburg. Issues in Ekurhuleni, Emfuleni, the West Rand and even Tshwane formed part of the wide-ranging discussions.
