Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says an alleged fraud case involving municipal contracts has been handed over to police after being flagged by the City manager and investigated internally.
This comes after the police's Commercial Crimes Investigation Unit raided 26 properties across the metro earlier this week.
Hill-Lewis, however, has rejected reports that the case involves R1.6 billion, saying the figure is incorrect. He says he was informed of the alleged fraud about a month ago.
