An Austrian tourist has died following a drowning at Wilderness on Saturday, 31 January, after three people were caught in rip currents at Leentjiesklip Beach, reports Cape town Etc .

The woman and a 21-year-old male friend were rescued and were not injured, while the 49-year-old Austrian was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.

Jonathan Britton, NSRI Wilderness station commander, said: At 3pm, Saturday, 31 January, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Leentjiesklip Beach, Wilderness.
