It's moulting season on Dyer Island, and for the African Penguins, that means more than just a change of feathers. It's a time of survival, heartbreak and hope as conservationists rally to save chicks left behind during one of nature's most vulnerable cycles, reports Cape town Etc .
According to the Dyer Island Conservation Trust DICT, this critical period highlights the life-or-death challenges these seabirds face. During moulting, adult African penguins lose their waterproofing and can't swim to hunt, leaving their chicks without food.
The Trust, in partnership with CapeNature , is stepping in to rescue and rehabilitate the stranded young before it's too late.
