In a surprise twist, Nonku Williams has announced that she is quitting Showmax reality show The Real Housewives of Durban RHOD - and will skip the reunion too.
Nonku is one of the shows OGs, having been a cast member since its very first season. This has made her one of the longest Housewives in Africas iterations of the franchise alongside Sorisha Naidoo.
Nonku Williams on leaving The Real Housewives of DurbanThe entrepreneur and reality TV star announced her departure from RHOD via an Instagram post on Sunday 1 June, adding that she will also distance myself from the reunion.
It's not an easy choice, but it's one I must make. Watching myself on screen, I'm confronted with a reality that's hard to accept. The woman I see isn't someone I recognise or respect, she explained.
I've played a role in shaping this narrative, but I'm also a product of the show's dynamics. The relentless pursuit of drama, the pitting of women against each other, the gossip and the put-downs - it's a toxic cycle that wears me down.
Nonku cited her responsibilities to her children, faith and the community, saying she wants to make a difference and leave a positive mark on the world.
But this show, with its destructive tendencies, isn't the platform for that. I've come to realise that I have a responsibility to myself to prioritise my well-being, to protect my mental health and to surround myself with positivity, she added.
I have a responsibility to my children to be a good role model, to show them the importance of kindness, empathy and compassion. I have a responsibility to my faith to uphold the values that are important to me, to be a light in the darkness and to spread love and kindness.
And I have a responsibility to the community to be a force for good, to uplift and inspire others, and to make a positive impact.
Nonku has often split opinions among the shows viewers. In season 5 , she announced her spiritual awakening, revealing that she was now married to Jesus . Some saw this as an attempt to repent for clashing with fellow Housewives in previous seasons.
