Nigerias Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has announced a 2 billion broadband expansion project aimed at achieving universal internet coverage within three years. Speaking at the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, Tijani said the initiative would drive digital inclusion and position Nigeria as Africas next global technology hub.

The project will be financed through a 49 government and 51 private sector hybrid model, supported by the World Bank, IFC, and the Africa Finance Corporation. Broadband will be classified as a national critical infrastructure to fast-track investment and lower operating costs.

Tijani said broadband expansion could boost GDP by up to 2 annually, citing World Bank data. FibreOnes Chief Experience Officer, Yinka Isioye, estimated that Nigerias broadband gap costs the country 15 billion each year and excludes over 45 million students from digital learning.
