The City of Cape Town has pledged its commitment to helping parents with online school admissions. The Citys SmartCape team from its Information Systems and Technology department partnered with the Western Cape Education Department WCED and City library staff to assist parents with their childrens online school applications during the school registration period.
SmartCape stations were set up at various libraries across the metro last week when WCED admissions opened to assist parents with online applications.
Each year, many parents visit libraries to register their children for school admissions. However, many parents also lack computer literacy and require assistance with online applications. The City recognised this need and was able to assist parents by setting up SmartCape stations at identified libraries and helping parents navigate the WCED website to make successful online applications.
'I am grateful that the SmartCape team took the initiative to coordinate this project and facilitate access to the SmartCape stations at the various libraries. Together with the WCED staff members and our City librarian assistants, we ensured that each parent was assisted and that these registration days ran smoothly,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys
The Kuyasa Library in Khayelitsha was equipped with 49 SmartCape stations, of which 25 were dedicated to registrations.
