The De Aar Regional Court in the Northern Cape has handed down a ten-year imprisonment sentence to a 43-year-old man, Jannie Booysen, who fatally stabbed 56-year-old Johan Malieke during an argument over a cigarette last November.
The two men had an altercation, which led to the accused stabbing the older man.
Police spokesperson Molefi Shemane says, After Jannie Booysen killed Johan Malieke, the matter was immediately reported to the police, which led to the arrest of the suspect. He subsequently made multiple court appearances pending the finalisation of the case. The Dee Aar Regional Court convicted and sentenced Boysen to ten years direct imprisonment."
