NAFDAC Cracks Down on Counterfeit Products in Abuja, Seizes Goods Worth N50 Million

In a recent operation, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) seized counterfeit products valued at N50 million from various supermarkets and markets in Abuja.

The agencys enforcement team targeted popular supermarkets, including Sahad Stores and H-Medix, as well as markets in Garki, Wuse, Utako, Kugbo, Nyanya, and Mararaba.

The seized products included counterfeit cosmetics, drugs, NIVEA products, Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener. The fake NIVEA products alone were valued at N45 million.

Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, head of investigation and enforcement, expressed concern over the sale of substandard products, particularly counterfeit NIVEA creams sold at higher prices than approved products.

Godiya warned that counterfeit goods pose significant health risks, including cancer, kidney damage, and skin rashes. He reaffirmed NAFDACs commitment to eradicating counterfeit syndicates and protecting public health. The agencys operation is a significant step in combating the sale of fake products in Abuja and ensuring the safety of consumers.
