The upgrading of school infrastructure and the building of new schools will be a priority for the Department of Basic Education in the North West .
Department MEC Viola Motsumi has tabled her budget in the North West legislature. She says they have appointed contractors to start repairs on over 147 storm-damaged schools.
The department budgeted R62 million to upgrade a number of special schools.
Departmental Spokesperson Mphata Molokwane says, "The Department of Education in North West Province continues to support all schools across the province. With a budget of R112 million, which is allocated to maintenance and repair.
The budget is not allocated to supplement the maintenance component of the Section 21 grant for schools, but to systematically maintain and repair infrastructure across affected schools.
