The City of Cape Town has announced, via their website , upcoming lane closures and traffic adjustments along Govan Mbeki Road and Wetton Circle as construction work on the MyCiTi Phase 2A expansion continues.
On Tuesday, 28 October 2025, a temporary lane closure will take effect between Wetton Circle and Jan Smuts Drive to allow for the urgent relocation of underground municipal services, the City's mayoral committee member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, confirmed. Traffic between Wetton Circle and Low Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction, while two lanes in each direction will remain open between Low Road and the Jan Smuts intersection.
The works will regrettably add to congestion, but we ask that you always keep in mind the safe, affordable and reliable MyCiTi bus service that is coming your way, the public transport option we have all been waiting for along this corridor, said Quintas.
