NGO My Vote Counts MVC says it will be writing to President Cyril Ramaphosa, requesting the release of the full record of the reasons he considered amendments to the Political Party Funding Act earlier this month when he signed it into law.
Ramaphosa assented to doubling the upper limit of donations to political parties from R15 million to R30 million and the threshold for disclosure of donations from R100 to R200 000. This follows the regulations being passed by parliament in May this year.
The president has passed the legislation despite a pending judgment in the Western Cape High Court on the matter, launched by MVC, which challenges the constitutionality of the Political Party Funding Act , including the limits as well as the Presidents powers to make a final determination.
