Multipurpose carriers MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH Co MACS and HUGO STINNES SCHIFFAHRT GmbHSTINNES are set to merge their operations, creating one of the largest multipurpose ocean liner shipping companies in the Atlantic Ocean.
Operating as MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH Co, the company will operate a fleet of over 15 vessels, serving more than 20 ports across 16 countries, and will remain headquartered in Hamburg.
This strategic merger represents a significant milestone for both sister companies and is expected to deliver substantial value to customers, employees, and shareholders. By combining complementary strengths in fleet capabilities, logistics networks, and environmental innovation, MACS will be uniquely positioned to lead the future of sustainable and resilient transatlantic shipping, said MACS managing director Dietrich Scheder-Bieschin.

As part of the merger, MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH Co will become the universal legal successor to STINNESand continue to honour all existing contracts, agreements, purchase orders, and other legal commitments previously entered into by HUGO STINNES SCHIFFAHRT GmbH, without interruption or modification.
The carrier has confirmed that:
As a result of the merger, MACSbecomes the universal successor to STINNESwith all contracts, rights, liabilities and obligations transferring automatically to MACS. There is no need for customers or service providers to take any action unless otherwise notified. All invoices, correspondence, and communications relating to such contracts should, from the effective date onward, be directed to MACS in Hamburg.STINNESheadquarters in Rostock will be closed by December 31. Its employees will operate from the joint Hamburg office from January 1, 2026.
The well-known Stinnes MPP Service 'SANMEX' between North Europe and Mexico/S Gulf v.v. will be renamed 'STINNES Service', keeping the 200-year-old brand name alive.
