MTN Zambia has officially begun destroying more than 70 million scratch cards as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability and promote digital inclusion. The exercise, conducted at the E-Tech Recycling warehouse in Lusaka's industrial area, aligns with directives from the Government of Zambia and the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority ZICTA to phase out scratch cards.

This initiative follows MTN Zambia's successful transition to digital recharge solutions through the MoMo app, USSD platform, and MTN App, offering customers secure, convenient, and environmentally friendly alternatives to physical scratch cards. By eliminating these cards, the company aims to reduce plastic and paper waste while supporting safer, faster, and more accessible forms of mobile recharge.

The event was attended by the ZICTA Director General, represented by Mr. Edgar Mlauzi, Consumer Protection Manager, who commended MTN Zambia for taking significant steps toward a sustainable and digitally inclusive future. MTN Zambia emphasized that the exercise reinforces its commitment to digital transformation and environmental responsibility across the country.
