Gauteng motorists have been urged to avoid the R500 Road in Carletonville, west of Johannesburg due to a sinkhole that continues to collapse.
According to the provincial Department of Roads and Transport, preliminary assessments indicate that over eighty percent of the road surface has caved in, making the route extremely unsafe.
The department says they continue to assess the full extent of the damage and urge the public to cooperate with authorities by using of alternative routes until further notice.
