Langa residents witnessed a long-awaited change on Wednesday, 10 December, as the City removed the derelict Special Quarters building, a structure many in the community had come to associate with persistent crime and ongoing safety concerns.
The demolition marks the end of a years-long battle to reclaim a property that had become one of the areas most notorious problem buildings, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith highlighted.
The site, situated in the heart of Langa, was known for criminal activity ranging from drug use and cable theft to the storage of stolen goods.
