Retshidisitswe Mlenga says hes ready in case he has to replace one of South Africas three 100m sprint stars in the heats at the world championships in Tokyo on Saturday, but admits its a daunting prospect.
I havent run a 100m on a world stage like that, so when I think about it, already Im freaking out, but Im trying to enjoy the process, said the 25-year-old, who earlier this year became the 10th South African to break 10 seconds over 100m.
Mlenga's participation in the 100m depends on the fitness of the three men guaranteed lanes in the heats Akani Simbine, Bayanda Walaza and Gift Leotlela. Nations can enter a maximum of three athletes in each event at the championships.
