South African sprinter Bayanda Walaza has been withdrawn from the national team for the World Athletics Championships starting in Tokyo this weekend.
Following a comprehensive medical evaluation, Athletics South Africa has determined that Walazas hamstring injury, sustained during his race at the Diamond League Final in Zurich last month, will prevent him from participating in the championships.
The Paris Olympic Games silver medalist and world under-20 champion was scheduled to run in the 100 metres heats on Saturday and the 4-by-100 metres relay.
