Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe says mining companies must honour their responsibility to contribute to the development of communities in which they operate. He has also highlighted the importance of infrastructure investment and creation of economic opportunities for local communities.
Mantashe was speaking during the official opening of the newly constructed Steelpoort bridge in the Sekhukhune District in Limpopo.
"Put your resources together, do what will contribute to the better life of the people and this bridge is the living example of that. I pass my thanks to the companies that put resources to build the bridge and the province has committed to take that work forward because they still want the mines to contribute in a particular way."
