Residents of Manenberg were shaken on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, after a violent gang clash on Renoster Road claimed the life of a 35-year-old bystander and left two others wounded, reports Cape town Etc .
According to police, rival gangs initially hurled stones at each other before a third group joined the fight with firearms, escalating the confrontation into deadly gunfire.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, Media Liaison Officer, said: Manenberg police registered a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder. A 14-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg, while a 21-year-old gang-affiliated male was shot in his lower back. Two suspects have been identified, but no arrests have been made yet.
