The Liberia Telecommunications Authority LTA has officially granted Orange Money a separate license to operate as a Mobile Money Service Provider, distinct from its parent company, Orange-Liberia. This certification comes under the LTA's Value-Added Service VAS Regulations LTA-REG-001, which now place all short codes under the direct supervision of the regulator.

Previously, Mobile Network Operators MNOs controlled the delegation of short codes for entities entering the Mobile Money market. The new regulations aim to create a level playing field for all participants and strengthen regulatory oversight.

At a program hosted at LTA headquarters on February 20, LTA Chairperson Clarence K. Massaquoi emphasized that Orange Money now holds full regulatory authorization to operate its services on a digital platform. He also noted that Lonestar Cell MTN is expected to obtain a similar separate license in the near future.
