Formal protection recognises one of Cape Town's layered coastal landmarks. The City of Cape Town has officially secured the Battle of Muizenberg site as a Provincial Heritage Site following Heritage Western Cape's gazette on 27 March 2026, reports Cape town Etc .
The listing protects archaeological remains, cultural landscapes, natural features, structures and unmarked burials at 220 Main Road, Muizenberg, recognising the site's historical and cultural significance.
Layers of history along False BayThe site reflects multiple layers of heritage, from shell midden material indicating indigenous use before Dutch settlement, to the stone walls, redoubts and breastworks built during the 1795 battle between Dutch and British forces.
