Taxi associations and long-distance taxi drivers have signed a road safety pledge at the Noord Taxi Rank in Johannesburg, promising to follow traffic laws and put passenger safety first during the busy festive season .
The campaign, led by the South African National Taxi Council SANTACO, follows growing concern over the increase in fatal road crashes including taxis during peak holiday travel.
Gauteng SANTACO spokesperson Sabata Mbobo says no one is allowed to use alcohol in a taxi, either the driver or the passenger, and they will work hard to ensure that everyone is safe.
