DP Worlds Port of Callao terminal has started using the first electric charging station for trucks in Latin America.
The new port infrastructure is part of DP Worlds decarbonisation plan, which aims to cut more than 2 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
A total of twenty 100% electric internal transport trucks, the largest fleet of vehicles recently acquired by DP World, will be recharged with clean energy using the infrastructure.
The facility is located in a newly built pier that will increase the Port of Callao's containercapacity to 2.7 million TEUs.
DP World senior director of safety, environment and sustainability, Sany Rodriguez, said the project marked an important milestone in the businesss environmental initiatives.
It will contribute to significantly reducing the emission of 2 145 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, and will promote the massification of the benefits of electric mobility for the energy transition of the Peruvian market, she said.
Enel X Way constructed the new facility, which consists of 10 dual fast-charge chargers of 200 KW each, supported by an electrical infrastructure of 2MW of installed power. Each charger has a solar panel cover on the roof to provide energy to illuminate the station.
As part of the project,Enel X Way installed a charging management platform that monitors energy consumption and CO 2 emissions savings.
Globally, DP World is investing around $72 million towards carbon-neutral port operations. This is the equivalent of 0.5%of itsannual revenue, which has been invested in supporting portelectrification programmes such as the one in Callao.
